In Anne Arundel County, more than 59,000 households worry about having enough food for their families. To solve this problem, we work with a network of partner agencies to provide healthy, nutritious food to food insecure people in our community.
“The $80,000 grant has been truly transformative to our organization,” said Susan Thomas, Executive Director of AACFB, “The funding purchased a refrigerated truck and USDA compliant storage containers to keep food items fresh and healthy. We can now transport almost 400,000 pounds of healthy produce and perishable foods thanks to Impact100 Greater Chesapeake.”
The grant funds came at a critical time. Since March 2020, AACFB has seen a 450% increase in people seeking assistance at our pantries and have distributed over 6.3 million pounds of food. As the pandemic continues, we still see an average of 66,000 people per month using our programs. We expect the high level of need to persist. Meeting the food needs of our county is our highest priority, and we recognized this same passion in all the members at Impact100 Greater Chesapeake. The grant process went to the heart of our organization – it was a very personal process that gave us a chance to show them what we do, who we help, and how much passion our staff has for our programs.
“There was a ripple effect in giving since this grant,” said Susan, “We saw Impact100 members sorting food, hosting food drives, and even connecting us to other businesses and organizations. They are an amazing group of women who genuinely care about their communities.”
