The grant from Impact100 allowed us to expand our COMEBACK Quick Response Team (QRT) into multiple local communities.
Families Against Narcotics (FAN) is a grassroots organization founded in 2007 after the drug overdose deaths of two teenagers in Fraser, Michigan. FAN empowers communities through education and recovery services that enhance the quality of life and health of all family members. By educating the public and providing compassionate support to individuals and families affected by substance use disorder (SUD), we can reduce the number of people who become addicted, assist those who struggle with an SUD to find recovery, and save lives. In addition to helping people impacted by addiction, FAN strives to destigmatize and normalize this insidious disease. We believe that everyone who is affected by addiction should be treated with the compassion and respect they deserve. Until people with a substance use disorder are given the same access to treatment that a cancer patient or diabetic receives, FAN cannot and will not stop. The grant from Impact100 allowed us to expand our COMEBACK Quick Response Team (QRT) into multiple local communities. This expansion means that more individuals who survive a drug overdose will be offered compassionate support as well as access to naloxone and recovery coaching. Since March 1st, 2021, Oakland County QRTs have made 47 home visits and offered support and resources to 25 families. As residents of the communities where the Quick Response Teams are operating, the women of Impact100 Oakland County have a vested interest in the success of the program. The Impact100 members who supported and voted for our grant have attended our QRT press conferences and had the opportunity to see firsthand the results of their efforts and support. This has been incredibly rewarding for both Impact100 and FAN.
