With help from the Impact100 grant, The Symphonia addressed the need for quality music programming for under-served children by creating a new program in 2017 at the Delray Beach Boys & Girls Club.
Since its inception, The Symphonia has received wide critical acclaim for its programming choices and for the caliber of its guest conductors, soloists, and talented core musicians. The pandemic dealt a harsh blow to performing arts organizations as theaters throughout the world became shuttered in early 2020. Despite the upheaval, The Symphonia was able to keep its musicians playing, enrich the community with music, and provide our supporters with hope at a time when hope was hard to find. With help from an Impact100 grant, The Symphonia addressed the need for quality music programming for under-served children by creating a new program in 2017 at the Delray Beach Boys & Girls Club. The program provides children from low to moderate income families the opportunity to experience the delight, academic and interpersonal benefits of learning how to play a string instrument and be part of an orchestra. The program also teaches children how to achieve goals using perseverance and selfdiscipline. The Symphonia’s experience as an Impact100 grant recipient has been completely unique, in a truly positive way. When the pandemic first shut down The Symphonia’s concert season, our Impact100 team called and said, “How can we help you? What can we do to ensure this program continues?” This kind of personal touch is rare in the world of grant applications and program administration. We continue, three years into our partnership, to feel this strong sense of support from Impact100, and very much appreciate that we have been given the chance to make an impact, through music, in the community.
