Impact100’s grant was integral to the beginning of our organisation. It provided us with enough funding to start our programs and services and since then we have supported more than 900 women across five years.
Zahra Foundation was established in 2015 following the tragic murder of Zahra Abrahimzadeh, who was killed by her former husband in 2010 after enduring 20 years of domestic violence. Zahra’s three children set up the foundation to support women and children affected by domestic and family violence, following their experience. The Foundation specifically addresses the financial abuse and disadvantage women experience as a result of domestic violence, providing specifically tailored programs and services that promote the economic empowerment of women. In Australia, one women a week is killed by her partner or former partner and our programs and services aim to break the cycle of violence and empower women to have a safe future before they become another statistic. Impact100’s grant was integral to the beginning of our organisation. It provided us with enough funding to start our programs and services and since then we have supported more than 900 women across five years. The beginning of a not-for-profit can be a challenging time, and the funding we received supported employing our first staff members and allowed us a vehicle to take our programs to the areas in most need.
