From December 1, 2020 through April 1, 2021 the Zufall Eats van distributed 11,840 school meals.
Zufall Health provides high-quality, affordable medical treatment to New Jersey’s working poor, uninsured, and under-served populations. We offer high quality, affordable healthcare in a culturally competent way to all in need, regardless of their ability to pay. Almost 80% of Zufall’s patients are at or below 200% of the federal poverty level, 53% are uninsured, and 61% are best served in a language other than English. Approximately 25% of all Dover residents and 100% of uninsured Dover residents are patients at Zufall. Impact100’s grant has had a significant positive impact on the Dover community by increasing access to food. It is critical to intervene while patients are young to prevent obesity, diabetes, hypertension, dental disease, and other serious chronic conditions. Our focus on prevention includes the Zufall Eats food truck that will take healthy meals and nutrition education to the neighborhoods most in need. From December 1, 2020, through April 1, 2021, the Zufall Eats van distributed 11,840 school meals. Originally, the Zufall Eats program was focused on summer meal distribution. By adjusting the program plan (with support of the Impact100 Garden State team), we were able to bring meals to families on a regular basis during the school year. In addition to school meals, Zufall Eats distributed 4,340 pounds of donated food from local pantries and farms. Our application process occurred during the peak of the pandemic but Impact100 communicated and provided guidance at every step along the way. Since receiving the grant, we continue to have regular, ongoing conversations with Impact100 as well as individual members who have donated items for the project as well as volunteer time.
